Snuff Box (France), ca. 1750
This is a Snuff box. It is dated ca. 1750 and we acquired it in 1967. Its medium is carved bloodstone, chased and engraved gold, cut diamonds, rubies, emeralds. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It has the following markings
On inside rim of box: Paris maker's mark (indecipherable); ox head, Paris mark of charge under Julien Berth, 1750-1756; crowned italic "K", warden's mark for 1750-1757; on rims of both covers marks struck twice: eagle's head with single outline, Paris mark for gold, restricted warranty, 1838-1847; anvil, or reverse, mark, struck at the same time as previous mark.
