Drawing, Garden Path Carpet Design

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Emma Amos and made for (as the client) Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company and made for Dorothy Liebes Studio. It is dated ca. 1967. Its medium is graphite and gouache on paper. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.

Emma Amos’s color sense is vividly on display in this design for an area rug. Bigelow-Sanford Carpets was one of Liebes’s largest clients during the 1960s, and the young artist’s skills in color and composition contributed significantly to the success of the Bigelow line.

It is credited Dorothy Liebes Papers, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 30.3 × 22.7 cm (11 15/16 × 8 15/16 in.)
