Daughter of New York governor Myron H. Clark and widow of the banker, Fredrick F. Thompson, Mrs. Mary Clark Thompson gave generously to charities, museums, hospitals, and universities. These included Vassar, Williams, and Teachers’ Colleges, Womans’ Hospital in New York, The Metropolitan Museum, and the New York Public Library. Upon her death in 1923, among her many philanthropic bequests she willed between $5,000 and $15,000 to each of her many employees.
