Rudolf Busch
Rudolf Busch was an art collector who came from a family with an artistic tradition, from whom he inherited a small collection. During the war period of 1914-1918, his finances permitted him to buy on a large scale. He avidly collected paintings, prints, books, and manuscripts. He had aspirations to turn his practice into a public collection, but circumstances at the end of the war prevented him from doing so, and even further, caused him to sell his collection. Much of the collection was sold off in 1921 through two large sales, one of prints, and the other of manuscripts and miniatures of the 12th-16th centuries. He lived in Mainz. Lugt L.2190
